Information on organising an ad hoc group

The Executive Committee of the German Sociological Association and the Mainz organisers welcome applications to organise an ad hoc group.

Please submit your application online between 1 and 28 February 2026 via (presumably) the conference platform Conf-tool and refer to the information on our homepage. Unfortunately, it is not possible to submit applications after the deadline.

Please describe as specifically and concisely as possible what the ad hoc group will focus on. The application to host an ad hoc group should clearly state the following points:

  • the particular topicality or relevance of the topic
  • the methodological and theoretical references of the session/topic
  • the suitability of the planned programme (e.g. presentations, panel discussion) for the duration of the session (2 hours and 45 minutes).

Please also name any speakers who have already been approached, along with their planned presentation topics. The naming of speakers is desirable, but not a necessary prerequisite for the approval of your application. The application may not exceed 5,000 characters. Please note that this time – in line with the original idea of the ad hoc groups – it is no longer a requirement to refer to the conference theme, but rather to focus on the particular topicality or relevance of the topic for the subject area (see above).

Please note that the organisers of an ad hoc group must be members of the DGS. Please also note that the organisers of the ad hoc group must be registered under the ›Speakers‹ tab. You can name requested speakers in the application or in the comments to the programme committee.

Unfortunately, only a limited number of ad hoc groups can be admitted to the conference. As already announced at the general meeting, from this conference onwards, each member may only submit one application. The DGS executive committee, in cooperation with the local organisers, will decide on acceptance or rejection by the end of March 2026. If your proposal is accepted, the names of the speakers, presentation titles and abstracts must be submitted by 11 May 2026 via (presumably) Conftool. You will receive further information after you have been notified of the acceptance/rejection of the ad hoc group.

In order to ensure the widest possible diversity, a maximum of two presentations per person will be allowed at the conference. The organisers themselves, who will only give introductory remarks, are exempt from this rule. The exact time slots at the conference will be assigned by the local organisers at the beginning of June 2026.
