Andreas Reckwitz is undoubtedly one of the most publicly visible authors in German-language sociology, and recognition by the German Sociological Association (DGS) is long overdue. With his books, which have also found a wide readership beyond sociology, he contributes both to the diagnosis of contemporary society and to society's understanding of itself. A title such as "The Society of Singularities" has long since become a widely used term in contemporary interpretations of society. His contributions across various media also make him an outstanding public representative of German-language sociology.

In 2019, Andreas Reckwitz was awarded the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize by the German Research Foundation (DFG). Most recently, his book "Loss" received the Friedrich Ebert Foundation's "Das politische Buch" non-fiction book prize in 2025.

The 2026 DGS Award for Outstanding Achievements in the Public Impact of Sociology will be presented during the Opening Ceremony of the upcoming DGS Congress on 28 September 2026 at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. The venue for the Opening Ceremony will be announced shortly.
